A group of Henning High School students will attempt to drive a supermileage car from Henning to Winnipeg, Manitoba—well in theory that is. This week Henning High School will once again compete in the supermileage competition at Brainerd International Raceway. The annual competition features teams from across the state that attempt to race unique vehicles at the track to see who can get the most miles per gallon.

Returning last week from a national Business Professionals of America conference held in San Antonio, Texas were Henning chapter members Nicky Bristow, Wendy Luhning and Missy Barker.
Meeting in special session, members of the Henning City Council learned of the city’s recertifi cation as a Minnesota Star City for 1993. A letter received from Jennifer Engh, deputy commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Trade and Economic Development, congratulated the city on its accomplishment.
Kayla Smith, daughter of Geoff and Lori Smith of Henning, was crowned as the new kiddie queen at the annual pageant sponsored by the Henning Women of Today. Attendants are first princess Mandy Shaw, daughter of Barry and Laurie Shaw, and second princess Rachel Klever, daughter of Harvey and Kathy Klever.
Incumbent David Stueve and challenger Glenn Scott were elected to three-year terms on the Henning Board
of Education.

Henry Johnson, 94, the oldest living Henning resident, observed his birthday at the Henning Nursing Home. Henry was marshal twice in Henning and once in Poplar, Mont., where times were really tough. The pioneer also drove a livery and mail service between trains on the N.P. and Soo and he hauled baggage and passengers to and from our two hotels, the Park and Portland.
Since 1900, the Republicans have had presidents in office 33 years and the Democrats for 36 years. The Republicans have balanced the budget 21 years out of 33, the Democrats six out of 36 years. The Republicans had defi cits 12 out of 33 years, the Democrats 30 out of 36 years. Cumulative deficits during the Republican years = $22.5 billion, during the Democratic years = $31.4 billion. Personal income tax was reduced six times during Republican Administrations and four times during Democratic years. Personal income tax increased once while Republicans were in office and 13 times while Democrats were in office.

The April sale of thrift stamps in this county amounted to $4,204.11. Among the towns and villages of the county, Henning is next to the top with $536.05, being way ahead of such big villages as Pelican Rapids, Perham and Battle Lake. The Parkers Prairie post offi ce heads the list with $598.
The Henning Cornet Band will play a few selections on the street this evening. This Wednesday evening the regular summer concerts will take place in the city park.
The local committee in charge of the Red Cross carnival to be held here soon states that it will not be a bronco or automobile to a pig or paper of pins.
Augusta Anderson, who has been stenographer for County Attorney Thompson, has gone to Washington to accept a similar position

The ice is out of East Battle Lake and fishing and boating excursions will soon be the order of the day.
The lots in the original plat of the village have again been placed on sale.
J. Knudson is erecting an addition to his land office, which has become necesary
to meet the demands of his increasing business. The past year has been a successful one for the schools of the village. The attendance had largely increased and from present appearances, another department will be a necessity in a few months.
The boys met at the depot on Wednesday evening and organized a second ball club. They are improving in practice and unless the first nine brush up, the youngsters will carry off the laurels.
