Henning to host WDC Wolverines on Friday night

The sixth ranked Henning Hornets improved to 15-1 overall and 8-1 in the Park Region Conference with three wins last week. The Hornets kicked off their week with a 67-54 win over Pillager, before defeating Lake Park-Audubon in non-conference action by a score of 63-37 on Thursday night. 

On Saturday the Hornets improved to 8-1 in the conference with a 75-31 win over Sebeka.

This week the Hornets will travel to Brandon-Evansville on Tuesday, before hosting Wadena-Deer Creek on Friday night in conference action.

Next week the sixth ranked Hornets will travel to fifth ranked New York Mills in a battle between the top two teams in the PRC. NY Mills is currently 8-0 in the PRC and defeated the Hornets by a score of 58-65 in overtime earlier this season. 

Tuesday

Henning shot 50 percent from the field and used a strong second half to pull past Pillager by a score of 67-54 on Tuesday night. 

“Good conference win on the road tonight. We made enough plays to extend our lead to double digits in the second half,” said head coach Randy Misegades.

In addition to going 24-48 from the field, the Hornets made 15-23 shots from the free throw line.

Four Hornets reached double figures with Tyson Misegades leading the way offensively as he hit a pair of 3-pointers to finish with 19 points and 4 assists. 

Mason Hammer scored 18 points, while Tanner Arndt had 12 points to go along with 5 assists and 6 rebounds. Kale Misegades also reached double figures with 11 points.

Calvin Stueve scored 5 points and Lane Dilly scored 2 points. Carter Dilly led the way with 6 rebounds in the win.

Thursday

Henning went on a run late in the first half and never looked back as they defeated Lake Park-Audubon by a score of 63-37 on Thursday night. The Hornets led 32-15 at halftime and continued to keep an up-tempo pace in the second half to come away with the non-conference win.

“Really solid defensive effort overall from our guys,” said head coach Randy Misegades. “We made a nice run before the half to extend our lead and then did a good job taking control from there.”

As a team the Hornets shot 45 percent front the field and had 11 steals. 

Mason Hammer led the way offensively as the junior went 8-13 from the field to finish with 19 points and 8 rebounds. Tanner Arndt also reached double figures with 15 points and 7 rebounds.

Calvin Stueve just missed out on a chance to join them in double figures as he finished with 9 points to go along with a team high 8 rebounds.

Tyson Misegades finished with 7 points, Carter Dilly scored 5 points, while Kale Misegades and Carter Dilly rounded out the scoring with 4 points. 

Saturday

Eight Hornets reached the scoring column as the Hornets defeated Sebeka by a score of 75-31 on Saturday. The Hornets jumped out to a commanding 45-12 lead at halftime as they were able to control the tempo throughout the game, With the game all-but in hand, several Hornets were able to get some valuable varsity experience in the second half of action.

“A lot of guys received valuable playing time and we had solid contributions from everyone who played,” said head coach Randy Misegades.

Calvin Stueve had a big game for the Hornets as he scored 18 points on just 8-12 shooting. He also led the team with 9 rebounds,

Carter Dilly and Mason Hammer also reached double figures as they each scored 11 points. Carter Kenyon had 9 points off the bench on a perfect 4-4 shooting, while Kale Misegades also scored 9 points. Tanner Arndt scored 7 points to go along with 10 assists and 6 rebounds. Tyson Misegades scored 6 points and Lane Dilly rounded out the scoring with 4 points.
