Library Happenings

Henning School

Sometimes, getting the case of the giggles can be the best way to change the course of your day.  This happened to me recently when I was choosing the book to feature for this week’s column.

We recently purchased at the Scholastic Book Fair the book Totally Random Questions Volume #1 by Melina Gerosa Bellows.

With Mrs. Cichy always posting fun facts on our announcements, I thought this could be a perfect book.  I open it up randomly to question number 4 and it reads, “Why are Major League Baseball umpires all required to wear black underwear?”  I immediately can’t wait to see what the choices are for the answers.

a.  It is the one color all the teams can agree on.

  b.  The underwear is made from a special fabric that comes only in black.

  c.  They might split their pants during games.

I turn the page.

Answer c, They might split their pants during games.

I’m now intrigued.

I have to go to question number 5—True or False:  A Cloud can weigh more than an elephant?

The answer is—True, the weight of the average cumulus cloud is 1.1 million pounds!

I flip farther into the book to question number 73—What do humans and zebras have in common?

a.  They’re both mammals

b.  They’re both striped

c.  They’re both striped mammals

Come on up to the Henning Public School Library to get the answer that just might surprise you! We are open from 3:30-5:30 p.m. following the school calendar on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
