Library Happenings

Henning School

Here we are getting ready to start the summer and have the school year end. With the start of summer brings thoughts of all the different summer sports.

Baseball is absolutely one of my favorite sports to watch.  Being a young child I was able to follow my three brothers around to their various baseball games all over Western Montana as well as into Canada.

When the gloves would come out in the spring and get all oiled up and ready for the practice to begin, the smell would excite us into purchasing our first bag of sunflower seeds of the season because who can be at a baseball game and not have sunflower seeds to keep you busy?

My youngest brother was an amazing pitcher and catcher for the 13 year old all-stars. He stands about six foot and has the strongest thighs. He could be in the crouched position and stand up, throw to second, and not be winded at all.  I loved to watch him pitch baseballs. The wind up would be routinely perfect and when that umpire said, “SSSTTRRRIIIIIKE” we would all cheer.  I learned early on how to take book for baseball but I never learned how to be quiet sitting next to the announcer!

With the first mowing of the grass and that special smell I will be having my thoughts turn to baseball.  We are lucky that we have such an amazing baseball field that is so well taken care of. I hope you will find yourself out watching a game or two and bringing along your sunflower seeds to enjoy!

Until then, come on up to the Henning Library and check out a book on any topic you want, we would love to see you on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons between 3:30-5:30 p.m. following the school calendar.
