The Landmark summer reading series begins early with a performance by Siamas Congo Roots next Wednesday at 7 p.m. in our garden patio area. Join us for the first of five free Wednesday night gatherings featuring live music, or readings and activities related to the arts.
Our first Wednesday night will feature Siama Matuzungidi and his spouse Dallas Johnson playing Congolese Rumba music from the Heart of Africa. Take a musical journey to Africa with Siama and Dallas as they lead songs in Kikongo, Lingala, and English. Delight in stories from DR Congo that bring Siama’s rural homeland to life. Thanks to Viking Library System for including Landmark Center.
“This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through grants from Lake Region Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage fund.”
The July 5 and July 12 dates will feature guest reading from arts books, followed by activities.
On July 19, Viking Library will provide another event with CLIMB Theater performance of “The Ant and the Grasshopper.”
Our final series Wednesday will be July 26 with musician and entertainer Ralph Covert getting youth and adults up on their feet to dance around and have a good time celebrating Summer. All of the events are free, beginning at 7 p.m. and lasting for about an hour. We hope you can join us.
On Thursday, July 6, Landmark Center will present a Historic Henning Walking Tour with Chris Schuelke from Otter Tail County Historical Society. This year the tour will begin and end at the Trinity Center helping to celebrate the 125th anniversary of that historic building. The tour will begin at 7 p.m., with registration fees going to benefit OTC Historical Society. Refreshment will follow tour.
Please mark your calendars for the calendars for the Art of the Lakes Studio Tour, scheduled for July 14-16. The Landmark Center will be one of 20 studio locations with demonstrating artists. We will feature five artists at the Landmark Center, more details to come.
