Henning School

This week we are featuring the book “School Spirit” written by Johanna Hurwitz.

The book jacket reads, “Will the Edison-Armstrong School close-forever?  Julio Sanchez, president of his fifth-grade class, can’t believe the school board would consider such a measure, but they are. They see the building as old and costly; Julio sees it as a special place with history and tradition. He is determined to find a way to save his school.

“With the support of his best friend, Lucas Cott, along with Cricket and Zoe, Julio begins to make some big plans.  But then sixth-grader Jennifer Harper takes the lead and rallies the entire school behind her, leaving Julio out in the cold.  Julio knows he could just sit back and let Jennifer do everything, but if he doesn’t help and the school closes, how could he forgive himself? As the school board decision looms closer, can Julio overcome his resentment and work together with his classmates for the future of their school?”

Come on up to the Henning School and check out a book to read that helps you to find your school spirit.  We are open to the public from 3:30-5:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons following the school calendar.
