Summer is half over and already we see plans for the start of the school year. The United Way of Otter Tail and Wadena Counties is taking applications for Stuff the Bus Back Pack Program. As of July 14 they had received applications for 21 children to receive a backpack filled with needed school supplies.

The Henning community is invited to help meet the needs of these children. Boxes to collect school supplies can be found at Henning Hardware, Seip Drug, Dollar General and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

Those who would like to learn more about the program and help stuff backpacks in Fergus Falls would be welcomed. Call Diane Thorson at (218) 770-0560 and she to sign up for a time. Filling backpacks will begin the week of July 26.

The Henning School has posted information for an upcoming meeting for students planning to participate in sports this year. That means sports physicals will be needed for some students.

Actually preventive health exams are recommended for all children and youth. Your annual exam includes review of immunizations. Henning CHAT has learned that many children are behind on their immunizations.  We encourage all parents to schedule an appointment for  your child’s preventive health exam and needed immunizations.

It’s only six weeks till school starts. There are approximately 250-300 Henning students to schedule an exam over the next 30 days. That would fill 10 appointments per day at the clinic.

If your child is over the age of 12 please talk with your health care provider about getting the COVID-19 vaccine. This vaccine requires two doses 3-4 weeks apart.  Think back to those days of having to be quarantined due to having been exposed to someone who had tested positive. Getting the vaccine reduces the risk of quarantines occurring.
