By Bev Johnson Master Gardener Mother nature hasn’t been very nice to her gardeners this summer. First, she tried to fry us and now to drown us. Still, there are chores that need to be done now to prevent problems next growing season. Keep ahead of the weeds, especially the annual grasses. Don’t let them go to… Read More

The Prairie Spy Alan “Lindy” Linda I’ve written about some of the fun stuff I’ve found in my life. But a lot of the best stuff?  That is stuff I’ve found while on my daily walk down the road. A while ago, while walking along the road, I found a partially torn up letter.   Hmmmm. I pieced… Read More

But climate change is already impacting our lives in the Midwest in many ways, including our respiratory health. Library Happenings Henning School I love to hear stories of my father’s childhood. When he tells his memories and his voice cracks with emotion, there couldn’t be a better gift given to me. I am a lover of history. I want to know about so many things that took place and how the people involved felt. … Read More

The Prairie Spy Alan “Lindy” Linda It was early summer, one of the very first 80-plus-degree days, and by 4:00 that afternoon, I’d had one service call too many. One too many dairy farmers who thought there was something wrong with his milk bulk tank. Refrigerated bulk tanks, for those of you who are not familiar with… Read More

To the Editor, I voted no for Robert Johnson. The biggest mistake of my life. He has done more for the City of Henning than what has been going. 1. Saved the City of Henning many bucks by selling Willow Creek. Anyone go and congratulate him? 2. Saved us lots of money regarding the streets this year. Anyone congratulate him?… Read More

The Prairie Spy Alan “Lindy” Linda My mother was born in North Dakota, in the middle of The Great Depression, at a time when it was “Root hog or die.” Times were tough. Banks were failing. Drought was everywhere, and then the grasshoppers came. “My job was to watch the bunch of turkeys we were raising,” said my… Read More
