This week’s featured book is called “I’m Not Missing” by Kashelle Gourley and Skylar Hogan. This book was purchased with funds given to the Pages for a Purpose campaign by Lake Region Electric Cooperative Round Up fund. The cover of this book hooks you in before you even read one word. The dog on the front has mischievous eyes that will remind you of your own dog or if you’ve never had a dog, you’ll think of one you have seen do this with their eyes.
Of course all dogs are innocent until proven guilty, right? As humans, we are unaware of all the stress that pets have in their lives! They work hard to meet our every need and obey our commands, always trying to be “a good boy.” For the pets, it can be exhausting and maybe even humiliating- think “the cone of shame,” the costumes, the foot booties.
In my life, I am around three dogs often. The first two belong to the grandkids. The older one is 13 years old and the other isn’t even a year old yet. One weighs about 65 pounds, the other about 8! The oldest one is the biggest and she will defend to the bitter end, yet want her tummy rubbed constantly. The little one I have tried not to get attached to because I feel bad for the older one losing some of the attention. The third dog belongs to a friend of mine and this dog is a character. When he gets in trouble with his human mama, I can hardly hold myself together. He knows he is being naughty and yet he also has the will power to hold out against the trouble that he knows is coming. When I want to decompress, I have to be around this dog because laughter is great medicine and he provides plenty of that.
Although this book that is featured is for elementary age, if you want to read about a dog, we happen to have 850 books that have a dog in them. I think we can find you one you’d enjoy. We hope to see you up at the library-whats holding you back? Come check us out and see what is new in our Henning Public and School Library..
