0It is time
To the Editor,
Now more than ever, it is important to do the right thing. More than a political party, more than a color, more than a tried and true tradition. We need to start changing how we think.
Check the facts. Do some homework. Ask around. We do not have to agree with our friends and neighbors on every last detail but we do need to be concerned with the future.
We had the chance to get some much needed funding to our school. Which is the heartbeat of this town. It’s the largest employer. The school’s events bring visitors and residents alike to the town. If you could gift 42.33% more to someone, at no extra expense from your budget, would you? Did you? The nearly $354,000 from the new levy and Seasonal Tax Base Replacement Aid sure would help and could be at no extra cost.
The school boards, state, county, and city governments will find ways to get the needed funds to operate and improve. Sometimes there will be cuts, other times they will charge more. If one isn’t raising taxes, another will. Which is more important, what has always been or what can be?
If we don’t change, who will? Why not be the change yourself. Make a difference. Step up. Lead by example. Do the right thing. Take a chance.
Let’s make something people are excited about. Something people want to be a part of. Something to bring new energy. New businesses. New families. New buildings. There is an initial cost to change. A thriving town, with thriving businesses, and a school full of future residents committed to being productive society members is worth that cost.
At what point do we just start something? Back and forth “what ifs” will not get the things we need. Stop finger pointing and get a plan. Agree to disagree but hammer out a set of ideas to make it better.
Be the change!
Thank you for thinking out loud with me.
