Two spaces remain available for five day pottery workshop at the Landmark Station building beginning today, Sept. 2 from 1-4 p.m. If interested, you may still jump into class #2 or #3 and have time to create several items using Stoneware Clay and a variety of assembly techniques. Artist Mimi Seykora will host this five day pottery event and guide you through the techniques needed to create anything you might want to make using wheel throwing, slab rolling, or hand building. This five dday workshop is spaced out over the next three weeks, Sept. 2, 4, 9, 11 and 16, giving time for drying and kiln firing before final colored glazes will be applied. Please call to register or for more info.
Two additional workshops are coming later in September, including a one day Blacksmithing demonstration by Jerry Hobbs on Saturday, Sept. 13 from 12-4 p.m. This free demo will walk through step by step creation of a Damascus Steel knife and leather sheath.
One week later, artist Clayton Johnson will conduct a two day wood carving workshop from Sept. 19-20 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day, featuring 3-D face carving in a 3x3x12” block of basswood. No prior carving experience is necessary, and carving tools are included in the $100 registration fee. Please call 548-5760 to RSVP for any of these art events. Space is limited. “This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through grants from Lake Region Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage fund.”
In mid-June, the Landmark Center presented documentary film screening of “PIEOWA, A Piece of America.” This film will be shown one more time locally as part of the Whiskey Creek Film Festival on Saturday, Sept. 13 at the Cozy Theater in Wadena. Check event listing for exact show time.
Mark your calendar for our Pie and Pumpkin Oktoberfest on Saturday, Oct. 4 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Join us for free pie and ice cream, pumpkin painting and live music with friends and neighbors.
