A free blacksmithing demonstration will be held at the Landmark Center this Saturday, Sept. 13 from 12-4 p.m. Please join N.Y. Mills Bladesmith Jerry Hobbs as he performs step by step creation of a forged damascus steel knife and leather sheath. Samples from different stages will help show the involved process and craftsmanship needed to create this artistic layered steel.
Some of you may have met artist Beth Howard in mid-June and seen the premier screening of her documentary film, “PIEOWA, a piece of America.” The film will be shown again, free screening, as part of the Whiskey Creek Film Festival at the Cozy Theater in Wadena on Saturday, Sept.13 at 5:15 p.m.
One week later artist Clayton Johnson will host a two day wood carving workshop from Sept. 19-20 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day, featuring a 3D face carved into a 3x3x12” Basswood blank. No prior carving experience is necessary. All carving tools and instruction are included in the $100 registration fee. This workshop is limited to 8 participants, so please call soon to RSVP if interested. 218-548-5760. “This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through grants from Lake Region Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage fund.”
The Landmark Center will host our annual Pie and Pumpkin Oktoberfest on Saturday, Oct. 4 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Join us for free pie and ice cream, pumpkin painting and live music. Help us celebrate the Fall season with friends, family and neighbors.
The Landmark Center is available for your public or private gatherings, meetings, reception, reunions, workshops, and overnight retreats. Our second floor retreat center offers five bedrooms and two shared bathrooms with space for 10 overnight guests.
