Landmark Center

Dan Broten

This week we take a moment to say thank you to the many volunteers who quietly come together, week after week, to support our community here in Henning and beyond.

From our local churches and service groups like the Henning Lions, Henning HOPE, Henning CHAT, the Henning Thrift Store, the Henning Food Shelf, our city workers, school bus drivers, teachers, farmers and medical workers, all working together to fill the needs of others. Thank you for all that you do.

Without prompting, a group of volunteers arrives at the food shelf once a month to help unload pallets of food for distribution to those in need. Backpack and snack foods are delivered to Henning School students each week throughout the school year. Meals on Wheels are delivered daily from the Corner Café to those in need.

Each October the Henning Haunted House “Boo Crew” spends countless hours preparing for a few weekends of scary fall celebration, and then donates the proceeds to many other community projects. Other groups of volunteers take one of these nights to provide food for both visitors and volunteers from the haunted house. This is community at its best.

Sadly, this week we also celebrate the life and loss of one of our greatest volunteers, Vivian Palm. Working for many years at the old Henning Clinic, years before it became Landmark Center and more recently spending many hours each day helping run the Henning Thrift Store. Vivians’ weekly stitching group is now continuing to meet each Thursday at the Landmark Center.

Another transition expected to happen this week is the transfer of our local Thrift Store to a newly formed Henning non-profit. When this happens, we will have another huge call for volunteer support to continue this local service and make it thrive. Proceeds will now be able to stay in Henning to directly support our community.  Please look for more details to come soon.

Henning Landmark Center also relies on community volunteers and hosts many local group meetings. We invite you to use our center for your public or private gatherings, group meetings, family reunions, receptions, workshops, or retreats. We have a Smart Room set up with TV for virtual meetings, Free Wi-Fi, full kitchen, and second floor retreat center with five bedrooms and two baths, space for 10-overnight guests.

Please call 548-5760 to reserve space for your future events and take a moment to thank all the local volunteers who help our community live and work together. For more information about the Landmark Center, check out www.HenningLandmark.org
