Landmark Center

Dan Broten

Henning Landmark Center is thankful this week and always for those who support our wonderful facility and contribute to the quality of life we all enjoy within the Henning community. We are rich with individuals and organizations that come together to care for each other, meet the needs of our residents, and make plans for positive and productive future growth. Together we remind each other how lucky we are to live with Love, Caring, Respect, Honor, and Caring. Thank you for all you do for others.

This week at Landmark I want to say a thank you to our members, donors, board members, volunteers, grant funders, and to all who take advantage of the services and opportunities we provide for the community. Again, thank you all.

This year we have worked with the Minnesota Historical Society preparing construction documents for a building restoration project. A large grant application this fall has been denied, but we will re-write and try again next year. We are thankful for the Lake Region Arts Council and grant funding we have received through the Minnesota Legacy Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

In 2025 the Landmark Center received operating support funds, a project grant for multi-day pottery workshop and a legacy grant for multiple arts workshops including glassblowing, blacksmithing, wood carving, watercolor batik painting and for our two large community mural puzzle project involving over 40 community groups and 39,000 puzzle pieces to create two murals now on display at the Landmark Center and Henning City Hall. Thank you to all who participated in this wonderful production. Hopefully we can do it again soon.

As we enter the holiday season, please take time to celebrate our wonderful community with your friends and family. In a world full of uncertainty, we can take comfort in the safety, beauty and quality of life we are blessed with here in Otter Tail County. Celebrate each day.

The Viking Library System provide Henning with Bookmobile service every two weeks, arriving at the Landmark Station Building every other Tuesday from 3:30-4:45 p.m. This season they are also offering a special free program by photographer/author Doug Ohman entitled, “They Chose Minnesota” on Wednesday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. at the Landmark Center. Doug will highlight stories and history from many immigrant groups that chose to make Minnesota Home. Please join us.

As we prepare for Santa Day coming soon on December 6, I want to say thank you to Diane and Doug Thorson for the contribution of this years’ Community Christmas Tree, and to the City of Henning for helping to install and light the tree before winter arrives.

As usual, Santa Day will provide a day filled with activities indoors and outdoors, at the Landmark Center, Trinity Center and the Farmstand. Join us at the Landmark Center for puzzle making, Lions Luncheon, Santa and Mrs. Claus, porchpot making, hot chocolate and cookies, lighted community parade, community tree lighting, caroling by the firepits, and many other community activities. Drop your letters to Santa in the mailbox at the Landmark Center.

The Landmark Center is available for you to use for your public or private events, receptions, reunions, workshops, meetings, reunions or retreats. We have space for 10 overnight guests in our second floor retreat center. Please call 548-5760 for details, reserve space for your next event or visit us online at www.HenningLandmark.org
