Landmark Center gets ready for a busy spring season

0As we welcome the arrival of spring, the Landmark Center is beginning to increase activities and schedule some of our upcoming workshop events.
Our book club “Beverage and a Book” will return to monthly discussion meetings every four weeks beginning on May 11. Copies of “5-Presidents” by Clint Hill are available at the Landmark Center, with additional copies arriving on April 15. All are welcome to join in the discussion on May 11 from 2-4 p.m.
Viking Library delivers books to the Landmark Center every two weeks, with next delivery on April 15. Books can be picked up from 1-4 p.m. that day. Call Viking at (218) 739-5286 to order your books.
The Viking Library Bookmobile will return to operation in June with a new vehicle and scheduled Henning visits every two weeks. New schedules are available at the Landmark Center.
Mari Fredericks will host a Rubber Stamp Card Making Workshop at the Landmark Center on Saturday, April 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Please contact Mari for details at (601) 951-0747.
Artist Mary Smith will host a Basket Weaving Workshop on Saturday, April 24 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A $35 registration fee will supply you with all materials and instruction to make one of two baskets. Option one is a spiral basket with wood base. Option two is a wine basket with wood base and self handle. Please call the Landmark Center at 548-5760 to RSVP as space is limited.
Coming up in May will be the CHAT Bike Rodeo on May 4 from 5-7 p.m., including a bike check-up, helmet fittings, safety course, and 12 free bike giveaways.
The Governors Fishing Opener is scheduled for May 14-15 in Otter Tail County. The Landmark Center will present an exhibit of fishing related artwork during those days including Gyotaku Fish Rubbings, hand carved fish decoys, and historic fishing photos from W.T. Oxley.
Glass blowing artist Jon Offutt will return to Henning from May 21-22 to demonstrate hand crafted glass artwork created as you watch. This free event will provide six demonstrations per day, approximately 30-40 minutes each, giving you the opportunity to see a piece go from molten glass to finished artwork. Exact times to be announced.

Other summer activities at the Landmark Center will include ceramic workshops, painting workshops, kids summer reading series, and the Art of the Lakes Studio Tour on July 16-18.
