Happy belated New Year 2024 from the Henning Landmark Center. As we are enjoying a fairly mild start to our winter season, we continue to make plans for another busy year filled with activities, arts workshops and gatherings at Landmark and within our community.
It appears that our Hwy. 108 rebuilding project will be delayed until next season, allowing us to continue with scheduled events without interruption.
Follow our weekly Citizen’s Advocate articles, or Like us on Facebook to watch for new activities as they become scheduled. Stop in the Landmark Center for a printed schedule of events. We are currently working on grant funding for a handful of new arts workshops, including wood carving, oil pastel painting, pottery, GAMEDAY, glassblowing, and more.
As of now here are some of the activities coming to Henning in 2024.
A Barn Quilt Painting workshop on Feb. 17 still has a few open spaces, please call to register. The Landmark Center will host a partial Solar Eclipse viewing party on April 8. Landmark will host our very own Sharon Thalmann presenting a play “On The Verge” on April 23 at Trinity Center. Daytime matinee for Henning students, and an evening show for area residents. Call the Landmark Center for tickets.
The annual Henning CHAT Bike Rodeo will again take place at the Landmark Center on Tuesday, May 7 from 5-7 p.m. This two hour event will offer safety checks, obstacle course, bike drag racing, picnic dinner, helmet fittings, and 12 new bike giveaways. Landmark Annual Meeting will be scheduled for Wednesday, June 12 at 5 p.m., all are welcomed to attend.
The Tri-County Cruizers car club will again host four city-wide car shows monthly throughout the summer, as well as their large car show at Amundson Park on Festival weekend. Look for show dates June-Sept. The Aug. 10 car show will be at fairgrounds at same time as the White Sidewalls performance.
The Henning Festival is scheduled for July 12-14, followed by Henning Fly-in on July 20, and the Art of the Lakes Studio Tour at the Landmark Center from July 19-21. The Turkey BBQ will be at Fairgrounds on Aug. 16.
The Annual Corn & Brat Feed at Landmark is scheduled for Frida, Aug. 23 from 5-7 p.m., and our Annual Pie & Pumpkin Oktoberfest on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Both events will feature live music, free food, and community fellowship. Late in the new year, the Landmark Center will host Wreathmaking on Nov.2 3 and Santa Day activities on Dec. 7, including Santa and Mrs. Claus, a community luncheon, lighted community parade, tree lighting in the Landmark garden, and Caroling around the firepits.
The Landmark Center is available throughout the year for you to use for public or private meetings, family gatherings, receptions, reunions, and overnight retreats. Our 2nd floor retreat center has five furnished bedrooms and two shared baths, with bed space for up to 10 overnight guests, perfect for a family gathering or for retreat getaway. We have a collection of Historic Henning artifacts in our museum area, Free Wi-Fi, and a SmartRoom for you to use for virtual meetings.
