To the Editor,

Dear kind folks of Henning,

I have been in the Henning Lions ever since Lion Wayne Hilchen asked me to join. This past two years I’ve served as secretary, and felt that it was a good time to let the local public know what we have been doing to serve the community.

The Henning Lions have been serving our community since 1972. Our current members are business owners, employees in the town or retirees who have a heart of service for Henning. I want to thank all of them for their dedication to this club. We have a lot of laughs together, but also a sense of pride for the service we do. Besides the devotion to eye exams for children, the breakfast we serve for the food shelf and at the Henning Festival, we also sponsor two scholarships for local students who are in higher education, and two scholarships in memory of Jacob Quam. These past several years we’ve contributed bikes to the bike rodeo, given money to pay for some of the fuel to get kids to swimming lessons during the summer, greeted folks with ice cream who come for the Rock, Roll and Stroll, and feed the public during Santa Days. We also feed the hundreds that turn out for the growing car show the Sunday of the Henning Festival Weekend. We publicly thank St. Edwards for their donation to our club for the Lion’s Shelter improvements at Amundson Park, and have added money to that for this year’s renovations. We’re contributing more to the upgrades at Amundson Park as well as to the ball park upgrades and restoration. In addition to that, we donated hundreds of additional dollars in the past several years for updated books at our local school library, to the skateboard park, donated a new Pickleball net to the tennis court, even fed the hardworking crew at the Henning Haunted House. We are lucky to participate in the non-profit group that coordinates efforts in our area to make this part of the world a better place to live.

The Henning Lions try to contribute to those activities which serve a larger scope of the town and unfortunately do not have unlimited resources for all requests. We also have a limited number of volunteers, many of whom have served this community in this organization for years and are no longer as active as they once were. The group is thoughtful with money raised, being good stewards and mindful of the contributions locals make to our club. We always welcome new and interested members. Applications can be picked up at the Hardware store or B& D Foods or a Lion’s member can get you one. We also welcome contributions at any time so we can do even more for the town. Most of all, we appreciate your support. Henning is a small town, and we are fortunate to have folks who are dedicated to serving you, its people.

Sincerely,

Lion Beth Rose

Secretary,

Henning
