Landmark Center

Dan Broten

The Henning Landmark is celebrating our 15-year anniversary and invites you to attend our annual meeting on Wednesday, June 12 at 5 p.m. All are welcomed. We will review highlights of activities from past & present and share our vision and goals as we move forward.

Stop at the Landmark Center to pick up a schedule of 2024 activities and events. This summer the Landmark Center will host a Summer Reading Series for youth on Wednesday evenings in July featuring STEM Arts activities. Viking Library has offered two summer events at the Landmark Center including CLIMB Theater performance on June 26 at 7 p.m., and a free Mobile Sign Shop on July 20 from 3-6 p.m.

Chris Schuelke from the Otter Tail County Historical Society will guide a Historical Henning Walking Tour on July 11 at 7 p.m. beginning at the Landmark Center.

This year the Landmark Center will host six artists during the Art of the Lakes Studio Tour from July 19-21, one of nearly 20 studio locations on the three-day tour.

New this year, we will offer space for Farmers Market vendors to set up in front of the Landmark Station one Saturday per month. Scheduled dates are Saturday 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on June 15, July 20, Aug. 24 and Sept. 21. Please call to register as a vendor.

The Landmark Center will again host our annual corn and brat feed from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 23, our pie and pumpkin Oktoberfest from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5, and Santa Day activities on Dec. 7. We continue to host community organizations for meeting space, as well as weekly quilting groups, monthly reading group, and a long list of additional Arts activities.

Henning Landmark Center has received grant funding from Lake Region Arts Council and the MN Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund for Operating Support and a recent Legacy Grant to fund five community Arts projects in 2024.

Operating Support helps us pay a portion of utilities and Director Salary.

Legacy Grant allows us to offer a five-day Pottery Workshop by Mimi Seykoya Sept. 3-17, provide two-days of free glassblowing demonstrations by Jon Offutt Sept. 21-22 and offer Oil Pastel Painting workshops by Stephen Henning during a week-long residency at Henning School from Oct. 14-22, and a one-day workshop for adults at the Landmark Center on Oct. 19. Finished works will be exhibited in the Landmark Gallery following workshops.

In addition, this Legacy Grant will fund two community puzzle projects where we will ask for volunteers to assemble individual 1,000-piece puzzles that will then join to create a larger mural composite. The first puzzle will be 15,000 pieces featuring 15-years of activities at Landmark Center. The second puzzle will use 24,000 pieces and feature historic and current Henning images. This Henning puzzle will then be displayed in the lobby of our City Hall. Dates to be announced. “This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through grants from Lake Region Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage fund.”

The Landmark Center is available for you to use for public or private meetings, family gatherings, reunions, receptions, workshops, and overnight retreats. We offer free community Wi-Fi and a Smartroom connection. Our second-floor retreat center has five bedrooms, two baths, with bed space for up to 10 overnight guests.

The Landmark Center is listed in the National Register of Historic Places since 2021 and maintains a collection of local historic artifacts in our downstairs museum area.
