To the Editor,

Will archaeologists far into the future discover a Capitol building in Washington that appears to have been used as a place to legislate?

They may discover that it was a place to decide how federal money was spent, when tariffs should be imposed and when to declare war. They might feel the spirits of elected officials who were willing to fight for millions of everyday Americans.

Also these same legislators once enacted meaningful laws to defend constitutional freedoms as rights to speech, religion and assembly. They may think of preserving this building to exhibit what the last shreds of democracy looked like.

Who knows what other lost branches of government they’ll discover?
