Library Happenings

Henning School

Our featured book this week is “I Didn’t Do It” by Patricia MacLachlan and Emily MacLachlan Charest, illustrated by Katy Schneider.

This book is written as the puppy telling the story.  It begins with the puppy expressing the need for quiet and darkness as he has just been born, and being born is a lot of hard work.  He can not tell where he ends and his sisters and brothers begin.

When it is time for him to get a name, he goes through a long list of names that he has an adamant NO for.  Fluffy?  No.  Jack?  No.  Fabio?  No.  Trace?  No.  Finally, he decides that he likes Big Bad Bob!

Big Bad Bob knows the human rules of no licking, no biting, no jumping, no barking, Sit! Stay! Down!  However, Big Bad Bob has his own rules of eating all you want, sleeping on the furniture, drooling anytime, digging in the garden, running off, getting muddy!

Big Bad Bob knows he does not like it when you leave, he does not like thunder, the pet groomer, his own food, or the mailman.  What he does like is round balls, human food, swimming, fleece blankets and a winter fire.

He knows he is not the one responsible for the chewed up slipper, the missing coat buttons, the food drug off the counter, or the flowers that are dug up in the front yard.

Big Bad Bob does not understand why you do not like his present that he left you.  He did, after all, catch it himself.  He knows it isn’t scary because it is too small to be scary, and look, it happens to actually still be alive!

We hope you will come up to the Henning School library and check out one of our many books about dogs.  We are open on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 3:30-5:30 p.m. following the school calendar.
