Wow for the farm kids that are taking Post Secondary College classes in the library. During the day they can be found studying hard and with many of them involved in sports as well, that puts them home late where they then have the responsibility to do chores around the farm.
The old adage of “If you want something done, give it to a busy person” seems to fit the bill with these post secondary students. On top of their college classes, they can be found being a teacher’s assistant in the elementary classrooms, exemplifying to the younger students a great role model.
This week in the library we are featuring books about farming. Our first book is about “Farm Machines” written by Jennifer Blizin Gillis.
In this book there are wonderful photographs of the machines used in farming. The author explains what tractors are, which machines get the fields ready, which machines are used for planting, which machines feed and weed crops, which machine does the harvesting. Also featured are the places that crops are stored and how animals help at the farm.
Our second book is “In the Barn by Bobbie Kalman.” This illustrated book shows old barns and what each spot in the barn was used for, what the different types of barns are called, how barns are raised up, the tools found in a barn, as well as the animals and the chores that families do to keep their farm going.
Come on up to the Henning Library and check out a book on farming- you might be surprised at what you can learn. We are open on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 3:30-5:30 p.m. following the school calendar.
