Susan “Susie” was born on August 11, 1940 at her home in Henning, to Dana and Edwardine (Koester) Wheeler and the youngest of 8 in her family.
Susie attended Henning High School graduating in 1958. She moved to the Iron Range and worked at Northwestern Bell until 1974 to raise her children. In 1992 she obtained a degree in administrative support and worked various office jobs until her retirement in 1999. She married the love of her life and father of her children, Fenton (Fred) Spicer on December 10, 1994. Susie loved the Lord and loved music. She played the accordion, organ, guitar, piano, and loved to sing. She sang monthly at various nursing homes and joined in the local gospel sings. She was a member of Hibbing Christian Assembly where she also sang during worship service and the monthly “singspiration” gatherings. Even when Macular Degeneration took her ability to read her music, she kept on singing and playing the piano from memory with someone reading the words to her. Susie lived her life for Jesus.
Susan is survived by her children Nathan (Collene) Wheeler, AudraSue (Dennis) Preble, stepchildren Laurie (Greg) Bruzenak, Keith (Cynthia) Spicer, Richard (Stefanie) Spicer, Fenton Spicer Jr, and William Spicer Sr. Grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, sister-in-law Audrey (Russ) Vanderhoff, along with her lifelong friend Annette Brandriet, and special friends Bonnie and Jim McDonald, Ed Vesel, Karen Port, Nancy Sausman, and her Hibbing Christian Assembly family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings Dorothy, Clyde, Harold, Horace, Harley, James, and Paul, and daughter-in-law Lori Wheeler.
She was the favorite aunt, don’t tell the others.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Chisholm Baptist Church.
