Steven James Elliott, 66, of Henning, passed away on January 1, 2024. He was born on November 11, 1957, in Waterloo, Iowa. Steven was a loving husband to Cheryl and a dedicated father to his son Jamie and his wife Sarah. He adored his four grandchildren and cherished every moment spent with his family.

Steve had a passion for fishing and woodworking and the “resort life” He co-operated Oak Lawn Resort with his wife, brother-in-law, and sisters-in-law, where he spent countless hours getting cabins ready for friends that became family, and on his boat, indulging in his love for fishing. Steve was known for his generosity and willingness to help others. He often assisted friends and family with remodeling projects, boat repairs, and cabinetry. He loved sharing his knowledge of the best fishing spots on West Leaf Lake and eagerly took anyone who wanted to fish with him. Steve often said he was “living the life” and his actions reflected that.

Prior to his time at Oak Lawn Resort, Steve worked at Omega Cabinetry of Waterloo, Iowa, for 15 years, showcasing his skills and dedication as a cabinet designer. In 1993, Steve became a co-owner of Oak Lawn Resort, a role he embraced wholeheartedly when he and Cheryl moved to Henning full-time to manage the resort. He spent 20 years at Lund Boats, where his craftsmanship and passion for boats shone through, while also maintaining the resort.

Steve Elliott is survived by his beloved wife Cheryl, his son Jamie Forsythe, and daughter-in-law Sarah, his four grandchildren; Cassandra, Taylor, Carter and Cameron of Waterloo, Iowa, his brother Bill Elliott of Waterloo, Iowa and sisters Rosemary Wilson of Ohio, Leslie Reynolds of Waterloo, Iowa, Christina Davidson of Waterloo, Iowa, and Shirley Jo Elliott of Waterloo, Iowa, his mother-in-law Neva, sister-in-law Shelley, brother-in-law Brian and sister-in-law Karen, all of Waterloo, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Rita, and his siblings Orval (Buddy), Eugene, Raymond, and Patty.

A Celebration of Life gathering will take place at a later date in both Henning, and Waterloo, Iowa for friends and family. The compassionate staff at Belmont Karvonen Funeral Home will be assisting the family during this difficult time.

Steven James Elliott lived a life filled with love, family, and the joy of pursuing his passions. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
