Roland “Rollie” Arthur Saetre, 95 years old passed away at his home at Willow Creek in Henning, under the gentle care of Vivie hospice on July 10, 2026

Roland “Rollie” A Saetre, the seventh and last child born to Alfred and Ida (Thoreson) Saetre, was born in Wesley Hospital in Wadena on December 9th, 1930.  He was baptized and confirmed at United Lutheran Church (now Good Shepherd Lutheran) of Henning.  His school years were spent at the Henning Public School where he graduated with the High School Class of 1948.  Following graduation, he attended Moorhead State College, Moorhead, Minn.  In November of 1950, he and three of his friends enlisted, before being drafted into the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.  He was trained to be a Medical Corpsman and served at the Naval Medical Center, Washington, DC and on the hospital ship, “Repose” until he was honorably discharged as a 2nd Class Petty Officer in 1954.  He then enrolled at Northwestern Chiropractic College, Minneapolis, MN, where he received his degree in 1957 and he went on to practice in Butte, Mont. and East Grand Forks, Minn.  Following this he spent five years in sales employed by Dartell Laboratories.  In 1965 he joined Elanco Animal Products, Co (a division of Eli Lilly Co) where he held positions in Elanco Sales and a brief time with Eli Lilly Insulin Purchasing Dept. before returning to Elanco in 1976 as a National Accounts Manager.  Transfers within Elanco caused the family to call Fargo, ND, New Hope, Minn., Omaha, Neb., Carmel, Ind. and Eden Prairie, Minn. home over the years.

He was married to Janice Froslee at Vining Lutheran Church, Vining, in 1956.  They are the parents of three children:  Peter, Mark and Carrie

In 1991 he retired from Elanco and he and Janice moved to Sunnyside Shores on East Battle Lake, near Vining.  They spent winters in Mesa, Ariz., where they enjoyed warm days, the nature of Arizona and where they made some lasting friendships with fellow retirees.  Rollie participated in leadership roles at Vining Lutheran Church, Leif Erickson Sons of Norway Lodge, Vining Watermelon Day Committee, Landmark Center, Henning, Casa de Paz Condo Association, Mesa, Ariz. and was a participant in the building and financing of the original Big Foot Gas and Grocery Convenient Store in Vining.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and he took great pride in keeping his lawn looking great!  He was proud of, enjoyed, and loved his children and grandsons very much. 

Rollie was known for his friendly personality, a quick smile, a hearty laugh, he made many meaningful friendships over the years.  Rollie was a man of faith and anticipated being with Jesus at his journey’s end.

Preceding him in death are his parents, his siblings and spouses—Gaylord, Sydney, Warren (Margaret), Josephine (Richard) Johnson, Clarice (Art) Espeland, son in law, James Derks, brother in law, Michael Froslee, brother in law, Gary Eide and nephews William Saetre and Gaylord Saetre, Jr

Survivors are: wife, Janice; brother Homer (Esther) Saetre, Sister in law, Yvonne Saetre, Children: Peter (Julie) Saetre, Indianapolis, Ind., Mark (Annette) Saetre, Indianapolis, IN and Carrie (Jeff) Larson, Vining.  Grandsons and Step Grandsons- Nathan (Jenny) Derks, Riley Derks, Henry Derks, Jeremy Derks, Max (Andi) Larson and Jack Larson.  Great grand child Laura Janice Derks,  In laws, Ginger Froslee, Karen (John) Mack, Ardell Eide (Lyle) Stinson, Gregory (Gail) Froslee and Bruce (Sue) Froslee and many Saetre and Froslee nieces and nephews.
