Dick was laid to rest at Good Shepherd Cemetery, Henning.

Richard “Dick” Emmett Brogard was born on May 11, 1933 in Vining. His parents were the late Emmett and Pauline (Walseth) Brogard.  The Brogard’s made their home in Henning and even at the age of 6, Dick would ride the Spruce Groose train back and forth to Vining and help his grandpa on the farm. Dick graduated from the Henning High School with the class of 1952. After graduation, he was employed with F.R. Stuart as an apprentice plumber. In 1954, Dick moved to the Twin Cities to work for Hoglund Mechanical and attended the Dunwoody Institute where he learned his trade in plumbing and mechanical.

On April 26, 1958, Richard was united in marriage with Lorraine Mae Johnson at the United Lutheran Church in Henning. Their marriage was blessed with 3 children: LeAnn, Brian and Lisa.  Together they made their home in Crystal, Minn., New Hope, Minn. and Wayzata, Minn. Moving back to Henning in 1970, Dick and Lorraine purchased Brogard Speed Wash from his parents and in 1973 began Brogard Plumbing, Heating and Excavating, retiring in 2000.

Dick was a lifetime member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, a member of the Henning Rod & Gun Club, Minnesota On Site Sewage Treatment Contractors Assoc., East Battle Lake Watershed Association, Arrowhead Snowmobile Club, Henning City Council, Commercial Club and belonged to the Minnesota Pipefitters Union for 35 years. He proudly served on the Henning Volunteer Fire Department from 1971 to 1997 and was the Fire Chief from 1975-1990.

Dick and Lorraine loved to watch their children grow as their family expanded with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  They enjoyed their getaway on East Battle Lake where they would fish and go for pontoon rides.  Dick enjoyed hunting, putzing in the shed, counting the cars on the train and was the unofficial supervisor of the City of Henning.  Lorraine passed away on April 12, 2010.

On February 7, 2021, Dick passed away peacefully at his daughter’s home in Savage, Minn., at 87 years of age.  He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.  Preceding Dick in death were his parents, Emmett and Pauline Brogard; wife, Lorraine Brogard; brother, Paul Brogard; son-in-law, Scott Peterson.

Dick is survived by his children: LeAnn Peterson of Savage, Minn.; Brian (Deb) Brogard of Henning and Lisa (Tom) Nygaard of Henning; 6 grandchildren: Jaime (Ryan) Tooley, Jared (Erin) Peterson, Ben (Ashley) Brogard, Kris (Ryan) Carlstrom, Megan (Alex) Jensen and Jenna (Toby) Curtis; 12 great grandchildren: Josilyn, Mia, Crosby, Cameron, Makenzie, Chase, Brandon, Owen, Nora, Grayson, Ridley and Boone; special nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a host of friends.
