Paul J. Peterson, age 82, of Parkers Prairie, died on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at St. William’s Living Center.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Kirk Lee and Vicar Joseph Bates presiding. Music is provided by organist, Maureen Diedrich and vocalist, Dedra Zwieg. Interment will take place at Parkers Prairie Cemetery. Full military honors will be accorded by the Minnesota Honor Guard and American Legion Post 219.
The visitation will be held 4-6 p.m., on Wednesday, March 19th at Lind Family Funeral Home in Parkers Prairie and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Paul Jerome was born on May 1, 1942, to Eric and Mary (Klein) Peterson in Leaf Lake. He grew up in the Leaf Lake Township area and graduated from Henning High School in 1960. Following his education, Paul enlisted in the U.S. Army serving in Germany and New York. Following his honorable discharge, Paul returned to the Henning area where he met and married Marjorie Clovning at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. To this union, children, Lisa and Jay, were born. They lived in Circle Pines where he worked and traveled repairing industrial furnaces. He was then married to Sandra Jones in Minneapolis in 1974, moving to Deer Creek before settling in Henning. Paul worked as a designer for Homecrest Furniture in Wadena until his retirement. Paul met Mary Whiteford, and they were united in marriage in October of 2000. They made their home in Parkers Prairie and were very involved at Immanuel Lutheran Church, serving as treasurer for many years and enjoying Bible studies. Paul was very creative and enjoyed woodworking, painting, playing guitar, pan flutes, and ukeleles. He especially loved fishing and spending time with friends and family, playing Farkel.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; brother Charles; and sister Eleanor.
Paul is survived by his daughter, Lisa (Steve) Kunkel of Parkers Prairie; two sons, Jay of Starbuck, Minn. and Kevin of Minnesota; three sisters, Ruth Hammer of Henning, Shirley Solberg of Zion, Ill., and Sharon Rowan of Arnold, Mo.; four grandchildren, Randi (Matt Brauns) Peterson of Fridley, Minn., Shawn (Ashley) Kunkel of Albertville, Minn., Tylor (Alli) Kunkel of Andover, Minn., and Jaelene Ziemer of Edina, Minn.; two great-grandchildren, Easton Kunkel and Morgan Brauns; and special friends, Cam and Delores Staples, Lurene Holms, and Katelyn Birch.
Urnbearers are Shawn Kunkel, Tylor Kunkel, Cam Staples, and Clayton Lahman.
