LaVella Berger, 87, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2023, at Cura of Le Suer Nursing Home in Le Suer, Minn.

LaVella Arlene Berger was born on November 25, 1935, in Henning, the daughter of August and Belle (Halvorson) Loser. She was baptized and confirmed in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Henning, attended Country School District #93 in Inman Township, and graduated from Henning High School in 1953. After her graduation, she moved to Minneapolis, Minn. and was employed with Northwestern National Bank for three years.

LaVella and Dale Berger were married on October 20, 1956, in The Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa. They lived in Minneapolis and Dale was drafted into the Army. After his training, LaVella joined him and they lived in Fort Smith, Ark., for six months, and then Sandia Base in Albuquerque, N.M., for 18 months. While in New Mexico she worked for First National Bank in Albuquerque. After Dale’s discharge they lived in Bloomington, Minnesota, and she returned to Northwestern National Bank. LaVella began work with Community State Bank in Bloomington, which became First Banks, retiring from the General Ledger Accounting area.

In 1970 Dale and LaVella bought a lot on West Battle Lake, built their home in 1978, and retired to their lake home in 1993. In the fall of 2019, LaVella and Dale began to reside in New Prague, Minn., to be closer to their son and his family.

LaVella enjoyed square dancing, old-time dancing, traveling, gardening, time with family, and loved having her grandson at the lake. LaVella was a member of First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake.

LaVella is survived by her son, Steven (Christine) Berger of New Prague; and grandson, Jack Berger. LaVella was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Berger; by her parents; sisters Margaret (Kenneth) Olson and Lorraine (Marland) Olson; and brother Kenneth (Adeline) Loser.

Memorial service was held at 2 p.m., Monday, July 24, 2023, at First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake, with a visitation beginning an hour prior.
