Kay Annette Thiel, age 79, of Newport, Tenn., (formerly of Kirkland, Wash.), passed away on Palm Sunday, March 29, 2026.

Kay attended West End Baptist Church in Newport, Tenn. She retired from Cedar Park Christian School in Washington State. Kay enjoyed spending time doing many hobbies including crafting, sewing, gardening, reading and spending time with her family and church friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Dean Thiel; parents, Leonard and Evelyn Johnson; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law Rollie and Babe Thiel.

Kay is survived by her son, Jefferson Thiel (Stephanie); her brother, Kenneth Leonard Johnson (Cynthia); her nieces and nephews, Cheryl Curry (Mark), Caryn Skopec (Joe), Kenneth Johnson, Bobby Thiel (Susan), Nikki Thiel, Peter Thiel (Nicole), Casady Thiel (Paula), Sophie Diumenti (Bryan), and Donovan Thiel (Jeorgi); along with twenty-four grand (great) nieces and nephews; and her brothers-in law, Robert “Bob” Thiel (Pat), Reggie Thiel (Roxanne), Randy Thiel, Rondi “Pete” Thiel (Pam).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to West End Baptist Church of Newport, Tenn.

There will be a Celebration of Life Services for Kay on Sunday, April 19, 2026 at 5 p.m. at West End Baptist Church in Newport, Tenn.
