We are sad to announce the passing of John Christ Ferber currently of San Diego, Calif. John died at age 87 on October 26, 2023 surrounded by his family. 

He was born to Fred and Mae Ferber on May 7, 1936 in Wadena. John graduated from Henning High School and received his B.A. Degree from the University of Minnesota. He was a Korean War Veteran, worked for U.S. Bank as a Commercial Real Estate Banker and Executive Vice President for 33 years, for Mortgage Bankers Association of America as a Senior Vice President for 10 years, and the University of San Diego for 22 years. He was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church in Escondido, Calif. for over 23 years and was a two-time Grand Knight. He was also a past Color Corps member and was actively involved in various forms of ministry at every church he attended. He was an incredibly kind and generous man of faith with an infectious smile and a gift for telling the best jokes. John loved his family and friends dearly, was a devoted Minnesota Vikings and Gophers football fan, an inductee into the Henning Wall of Fame in 2013, was an avid Farkle player, and left a deep impact on all who knew him. 

He is survived by his loving wife Jean of 59 years, his three daughters Lynn Duncan (Wally), Julie Ferber, and Karen Leininger (Chris) and his five grandchildren Nick, Jon, Avery, Jack and Kate, great-grandson Nicholas, sister Mary Lord, and nephew Richard Lord. 

A public visitation was held on Thursday, November 2 from 4-8 p.m. at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary, 225 South Broadway, Escondido, CA 92025. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Friday, November 3 at 11 a.m., St. Timothy’s Catholic Church, 2960 Canyon Road, Escondido, CA 92025. Donations can be made to St. Timothy’s Knights of Columbus in John’s name.
