Jim Axelson

0Jim was born in Albert Lea, Minn., to parents Anton Peter and Minna Johanna (Schatter) Axelson. His family moved to Ellendale where he graduated in 1961 from Ellendale High School. He excelled at school in choir, music and played in jazz band. His instrument of choice was trumpet. He loved his Harley Davidson and cars. After graduating he became a professional touring musician. His first job was playing in a circus band. As he honed his craft he traveled the whole United States coast to coast performing. He played in San Francisco, Las Vegas and also in Dick Clark band. He also performed in Germany for Oktoberfest. Later in life he performed in the southern states during the winter months for many other groups.
When his mother fell ill he returned home to care for her. While home on special occasions, he played weddings and birthdays. He loved being Santa at Christmas. By returning home he was able to reunite with classmates and socialize. On June 23, 1981 he married Gloria M. Kopet who became his lifelong partner. They lived in Albert Lea, Minn., Truckee, Calif., then eventually moved to Vining on East Battle Lake. He worked at Big Foot in Vining for many years and loved socializing with people.
Wednesdays were special as he loved going to KKK Cafe in Henning and socializing. He loved seeing Broadway shows, traveling to Texas and a Panama cruise. Jim was known for his dry joking humor. Jim enjoyed the Folden Church and also singing old hymns. Jim passed away peacefully at home. He will be sadly missed by many.
Jim is survived by several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death were parents Pete and Minna, sister Shirley and husband Marshall Jensen, sister Jeanne and husband Claire Ellington, great niece Trisha and great nephews Caleb and Tom.
Services will be held at Folden Lutheran Church Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 11 a.m. Refreshments served after service.
