0Jerome B. Frobom, age 80, passed on August 15, 2024 at Bryan East Hospital ICU in Lincoln, Neb. His earthly life ended peacefully in Comfort Care, Bryan’s in-hospital hospice.
Jerome Bruce (“Jerry”) Frobom was born to Evert R. Frobom and Sophie (Benti) Frobom on September 3, 1943 in Wadena. He and his three younger siblings grew up on a farm on the shores of East Leaf Lake in Otter Tail County, Minnesota. He graduated from Deer Creek High School in 1961 and received a B.A. degree from Bemidji State College in 1965.
Jerome worked in Beloit, Wis., where he met his late wife, Linda Louise Barghahn, while singing in a choir. They were married on August 13, 1967 in Knoxville, Iowa. Two children were born of the marriage, Jenny and Jon.
After obtaining his Master’s degree in Library Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Jerome moved to Cheyenne, Wyo., where he was employed by the Wyoming State Library from 1973 until he accepted a position as Government Documents Librarian at the University of Nebraska in 1986.
Jerry’s wife Linda died in March of 1994 after a long, courageous battle with breast cancer. In 1999, Jerry married LeAnn (Larson) LaFave.
Jerry retired from UNL in 2002 but came out of retirement to work at the newly constructed Bess Dodson Walt Public Library as a library assistant. After his second retirement, he became a Kansas City Royals fan, an avid reader, and a quilter.
Kerr’s three greatest loves were his family, books, and music.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Linda, his brother Richard, and his sister Mary.
He is survived by daughter Jenny (Matt) Dwiggins, son Jon (Cynthia) Frobom, seven grandchildren, Erin (Matt) Marra, Daniel Dwiggins, Michael Dwiggins, Katy Dwiggins, Henry Frobom, Alex Frobom, and Oliver Frobom, three great-granddaughters, Robin, Aveline, and Cassandra Marra, his wife LeAnn Frobom, his sister Kathy (Ron) Mohs of Deer Creek, brother-in-law Jeff (Sarah) Larson of Sioux Falls, SD, three adult stepchildren, and four step-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at St. David’s Episcopal Church, 8800 Holdrege Street, Lincoln, NE 68505 on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 2 p.m. Memorials to the family for future designation.
A graveside service will be held on September 7, 2024 at 11 a.m. at the Leaf Lake Finnish Cemetery, 46759 290th Street, Ottertail, Minnesota.
