0Funeral Services were held for James “Jim” Maloney, age 79 of Deer Creek, on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Henning, with Pastor Keith Lankford officiating. The hymns were sung by the congregation, accompanied by Diane Hermanson. Pallbearers were John Ahlers, Michael Ahlers, Casey Maloney, Jason Maloney, Shana Ahlers, Chelsea Minderman, and Hayley Maloney. Jim was laid to rest in Compton Cemetery, Compton Township, rural Deer Creek.
James “Jim” Edward Maloney was born on July 11, 1943 in Tower City, N.D. His parents were the late Denis and Mary (Gruman) Maloney. The Maloney Family moved to rural Deer Creek, in 1952. Jim graduated from the Deer Creek High School with the class of 1961. After graduation, Jim went on wheat harvest in Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska. In June he went to work at Farmers Coop in Deer Creek as a mechanic for five years.
On April 6, 1963 Jim was united in marriage with Sandra Lea Bendix in Deer Creek. Their marriage was blessed with 2 children: Bonnie and Rodney. Jim started farming in the fall of 1965. In June of 1968 Jim and Sandy bought the family farm from Howard and Lillian Morey. Together Jim and Sandy have resided and farmed in Compton Township, rural Deer Creek their entire lives. After selling the cattle, Jim was employed at Homecrest in Wadena from 1998-2008. In 2010 when the tornado came through, Jim and Sandy lost their home and rebuilt a new home on the family farm. Jim also enjoyed hunting, fishing and his dog, Duke.
On September 3, 2022 Jim passed away at Fair Oaks Lodge in Wadena, at 79 years of age. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Preceding Jim in death were his parents, Denis and Mary Maloney; siblings: Norman (Jan) Maloney; Betty (Roy) Redfield; brother-in-law, Jim Hill.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Sandra Maloney of Deer Creek; daughter, Bonnie (Tom) Ahlers of Deer Creek; son, Rodney (Lisa) Maloney of Deer Creek; 7 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters: Kathy Hill of Chicago, Ill., and Suzette (Randy) Maluchnik of Chaska., Minn.; brothers: Tom (Linda) Maloney of North Branch, Minn. and Patrick (Carolyn) Maloney of Manchester, Iowa; many other relatives and a host of friends.
