George Eugene Kimber, Jr. was born on June 2, 1947, in Wadena, the eldest of seven children born to George Kimber, Sr. and Shirley (Jensen) Kimber. George grew up on the family farm near rural Henning and attended school there. Being an adventurer, George went to live in Phoenix, Ariz., for a year, before returning to Henning High School and graduating in 1966.
Over the years, George was employed in many varied professions such as being a baker in Windom, Minn., and Fergus Falls, working as an auto mechanic at the Midland Station in Henning and Montgomery Ward in Bemidji, Minn., and lastly working for electric companies in central Minnesota as well as Beltrami Electric in Bemidji, Minn.
In 1968, George married and to this union, two children were born, Michell and Scott. On December 3, 1983, George married the love of his life, Cynthia James Brandborg. The couple lived in Henning for a time, then relocated to northern Minnesota, initially settling in Puposky, then finally to the farm they so loved, near Bemidji. George and Cindy were very proud of their farm and enjoyed watching the wildlife that roamed freely through their yard. They enjoyed gardening and shared an abundance of produce they grew with their family and friends. George and Cindy loved to travel, whether it was in their motorhome for weekend trips or riding in their golfcart, affectionately known as Herbie, for a trip around the farm.
George was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing, including many trips to Lake of the Woods, as well as the yearly bass fishing tournament in Henning. Following in his father’s footsteps, George was also a very talented musician, singing and playing guitar with bands when he was a teenager. He was best known, however, for the many hours he spent making music with his family and friends. Also like his father, George had a quick wit and never met a stranger. He forged many friendships wherever he went, whether it be childhood friends, such as Gary and Joyce Rehborg, or friends from later in life, such as Bob and Monica Beighley from Bemidji Minn., just to name a few. For George, friendship was a lifelong commitment and was always something that he treasured very much. George also enjoyed spending time with his family, whether it was with his beloved grandchildren, or more recently with his siblings in a spirited poker game.
On December 10, 2025, George passed away at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center, surrounded by his family. He was 78 years old. After battling illness for several years, the Lord called him home. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
George is survived by a daughter, Michell (Larry) Nelson, stepchildren, Sandra (Allen) Hardy, and Michael Brandborg, sisters, Deanna (Rick) Hammer and Debra Crouse, and brothers, Brian Kimber and Jeffrey (Jason) Kimber.
He was preceded in death by a son, Scott Kimber, his parents, George Kimber, Sr. and Shirley Kimber, a brother, Michael Kimber, and a sister, Darla Kimber.
