An Open House Celebrating the Life of Gail Helmbrecht, age 70 of Henning, will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024, from 12-2 p.m. at the Belmont-Karvonen Funeral Home in Henning.

Gail Sharon Schallock was born on May 9, 2024, in Parkers Prairie. Her parents were the late Gaylerd and Doris (Johnson) Schallock.  Gail graduated from Henning High School with the class of 1971. She made her home in Folden Township and was employed at the Wadena Bakery in Wadena.

On May 5, 1973, Gail was united in marriage with William “Cookie” Braaten Helmbrecht. Their marriage was blessed with two children: Pamela Jo and Clay. Together they made their home on East Battle Lake. Gail was employed at the Henning Bar & Grill and Oakwood Supper Club and Golf Course, Walmart in Fergus Falls, Minnesota and then Lucy’s Café in Henning. Gail enjoyed working at B&D’s Grocery in Henning for 15 years and retired in 2016.

Gail enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and especially spending time with her grandchildren.

On May 5, 2024, Gail passed away peacefully at her home in rural Henning, surrounded by her family and the gentle care of Knute Nelson Hospice. Preceding Gail in death were her parents Gaylerd and Doris Schallock, her husband William Helmbrecht and her sister JoAnn Henry.

Gail is survived by her children: Pamela Jo (Russ) Moran and Clay (Julia) Helmbrecht; seven grandchildren: Anthony (Jordan), Logan (Zach), Abbigail (Gage), James, Wyatt, Chris, Shauna and Kass (Katherine) and siblings: Shirley Vye and David (Lori) Shallock; many other relatives and a host of friends.
