Ben Oseien, age 73, of Henning, passed away on December 24, 2025, at his Country Living Adult Foster Care in Henning. Funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Henning. Ben was laid to rest at Shamp’s Cemetery, Pine River, Minn.
Benny “Ben” Ardell Oseien was born on December 27, 1951, at Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn., to Robert “Bud” Oseien and Mildred “Millie” (Pearce) Oseien.
Ben attended Backus High School and graduated with the Class of 1969. On December 1, 1973, he was united in marriage to Judith Darene Shamp at Our Lady of the Lourdes Catholic Church in Pine River, Minn. Following their marriage, Ben and Darene made their home in Hibbing, Minn., where Ben was employed by the Mining Supply Company. Their marriage of 52 years was blessed with three children: Mary, BJ and Robert.
In 1982, Ben and Darene moved to Henning, where they purchased Dilly’s store and opened B&D Foods, beginning a long and proud career as business owners. In 2001, they built a new grocery store in Henning, continuing their commitment to serving the community they loved. Ben approached each day with determination, consistency, and pride in his work.
In his free time, Ben enjoyed classic cars, especially his Chevelles. He appreciated simple pleasures in life, including a cold beer and laughter with friends and family. He also took great satisfaction in tending to his rose bushes at his home on Round Lake. As an entrepreneur, Ben was known for his strong work ethic and adventurous business spirit. Above all, he was a devoted husband, a proud father and grandfather, and a man who deeply loved his hometown.
Ben passed away peacefully on December 24, 2025, at Country Living Adult Foster Care in Henning, at the age of 73. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mildred Oseien; his son, Robert Oseien; and his brother, Terry “Sparky” Oseien.
He is survived by his loving wife, Darene Oseien; his children, Mary (Doug) Trana and BJ (Jill) Oseien; six grandchildren, Dylan, Brandon, Ben, Macy, Jocelyn, and Charlotte; and his sister, Christine (Roddy) Neesmith.
