Anton “Tony” Thompson, 82 years old, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2025, at Torrance Memorial Medical Center in Torrance, Calif.

Born on September 15, 1942, Tony was the son of Anton and Beatrice Thompson of Henning.

Tony was an accomplished classical pianist and vocalist. As a youth Tony took piano instructions from the legendary pianist Mrs. Van Dijk, Fergus Falls. Tony continued his music education at Moorhead State College and University of Minnesota. Throughout his life in California he was involved in musical productions, piano, organ and vocal recitals. His faith in the Lord led him to several church organist positions. His music gave comfort and solace. He also took comfort in his daily presence in the Redondo Beach Public Library. This is where he read and had reflection.

Tony’s passing is mourned by sisters, Mary Kay Kohre, Joan (Les) Torgerson; brother, Dr. Owen (Becky) Thompson. Many nieces and nephews. His friends in Redondo Beach mourn the loss of “Tom,” a much loved friend. Tony is remembered for his joyful heart, giving up to laughter, and kindness toward others. His faith was his constant companion.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents Anton and Beatrice; sister Judy Backhaus.

Tony’s family will host a celebration of his life in Redondo Beach, Calif., on June 21, 2025. A private burial service will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Cemetery, Henning.
