Alma Alfrieda (Guse) Stueve, 96, of Henning, passed away Thursday, December 30, 2021, at the Country Living Adult Foster Care Home in rural Henning. Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Henning with Pastor Daniel Larsen officiating. Congregational hymns were accompanied by Diane Gutknecht. Special music was provided by St. John’s Men’s Choir, and prelude music was provided by Jared Rudolph and Tyler Reese. Pallbearers were Derek Bolland, Jake Hermanson, Andy Stueve, Nic Rudolph, Jared Rudolph and Tyler Reese. Honorary Pallbearers were Alma’s grandchildren, and Kaleb and Kolby Thalmann. Alma was laid to rest at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Henning.

Alma Alfrieda Guse was born on April 25, 1925, in Henning, one of 13 children of Gustav and Bertha (Jahnke) Guse and grew up and attended public school in Henning. She was baptized June 7, 1925, and confirmed April 2, 1939, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Henning. At the age of 16, she left home to help her sister with her family. 

Alma was united in marriage to Emil Henry Stueve on September 22, 1946, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and to this union, six children were born, David, Karen, Michael, Cynthia, Pamela, and Brenda. After their marriage, Alma helped with their farm work in Leaf Lake Township until 1990. In 1970, she also started working outside of the home at Lutheran Island Camp, Dilly’s Grocery Store, Bursch Drug and Annex and Little Red Sled. 

Alma was a member of St. Paul’s Ladies’ Aid, Leaf Lake Homemakers’ Club and was a Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed sewing and quilting and made quilts for all of her children and grandchildren as well as embroidered sets of dish towels for them. She also enjoyed listening to music, gardening, cooking, baking, and doing puzzles and playing cards and games with her grandchildren. Alma loved her children and grandchildren and attended every one of their sporting events that she could. Besides supporting the local teams, she also cheered for the Wadena hockey team and the NDSU Bison football team. She had a very strong faith in God, which she passed on to her children and grandchildren. 

Deeply loved, Alma’s passing will be mourned by her children: David (Karen) Stueve, Karen (Dean) Bolland, Michael (Elizabeth) Stueve Sr., Cynthia Hermanson, Pamela (Dale) Rudolph and Brenda (Daniel) Reese; her grandchildren: Todd (Katie) Bolland, Derek (Erin) Bolland, Tammy (Robert) Trosdahl, Michael (Melissa) Stueve Jr., Matthew (Jessy) Stueve, Christopher Stueve, Andrew Stueve, Jacob (Sheila) Hermanson, Amy (Beau) Wohlwend, Nicholas (Erin) Rudolph, Jared (fiancée Tirzah Dolde) Rudolph, and Tyler Reese; seven step-grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 25 foreign exchange students who called her Grandma, a sister-in-law, Marlene Stueve; many nieces and nephews and a close family friend, Kathleen Peters. 

Alma was preceded in death by her husband, Emil; her parents and her in-laws, Dick, and Marie Stueve; son-in-law Robert Hermanson; great-grandson Bryton Trosdahl; five brothers and seven sisters.
