Alma Jane Stoll was born in Cokato, Minn. on July 23, 1949 to Willis and Bernadette Stoll. She was welcomed home by a sister and four older brothers, and was later joined by another sister and brother. Jane grew up in Howard Lake, Minn., the family home was marked by the enormous weeping willow that stood in the front yard.

She was baptized and confirmed at the St James Lutheran Church, and also attended St. James Parochial School and later graduated from Howard Lake High School in 1967. Newly graduated and eager to start a new chapter, Jane moved to Minneapolis, Minn. to take her first job at an insurance company. In Minneapolis, is where she met her future husband, Bill.

Jane and Bill Goepferd were married on July 15, 1972 in Howard Lake, Minn. While Jane held many different jobs over the course of her life, she said that her favorite job was being a mother and her promotion to grandmother. Bill and Jane welcomed two daughters to their family – Lisa RuthAnn in December of 1973 and Sara Jane in October of 1976. As a mother, she raised her daughters to be strong and independent. She taught them to stand up for what they believed in and to always live by the Golden Rule: to treat others how they wished to be treated.

Jane was an active member in the Henning community for over 45 years as both a servant and leader. She was also involved in many groups at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and as a member of the Jaycee Women. She ran the Henning Festival Pageant for many years and was the volunteer Cheer Coach at Henning High School through the 1980’s. She was a founding chairperson of the Henning Landmark Center and a long-time volunteer at the Salvation Army store.

Once her daughters entered high school, she was a devoted fan and supporter at their events. She drove many miles in all kinds of weather to support them at everything from volleyball games and track meets to fall plays and spring concerts. Jane’s support for the Henning teams didn’t stop when her girls graduated, Jane continued to support the volleyball and basketball teams by attending as often as possible and watching online when she couldn’t attend.

In her free time, Jane loved reading, crossword puzzles and knitting afghans as gifts for loved ones – from newborns to newlyweds and special requests from her girls.

Jane’s love for her girls carried forward to her beloved granddaughters, Olivia, Hannah, and Alice. She was proud to be present for the birth of all three of her granddaughters. She loved visiting them and routinely traveled from Minnesota to Illinois to spend time with them. She attended many of her granddaughters’ events including volleyball, basketball, and soccer games, track meets, birthdays, and graduations. She cherished taking her granddaughters on one-on-one shopping days, complete with a special lunch to connect and spend time together.

On July 9, Jane passed away peacefully with her daughters and husband by her side at her home in Ottertail. She was 76 years old.
