Vehicle causes downed power lines near Henning

Sheriff deputies, on Tuesday, Nov. 8, reported two thefts in Otter Tail County.

The theft of a Jennings 9 MM handgun was called in to sheriff deputies from a resident who resides at Blarney Trail, on the southwest side of Otter Tail Lake. Other firearms were taken from a residence at Leek Lake Bend, northwest of Vergas.

The theft of a trail camera, valued at close to $500, was taken near the junction of Highway 210 and 275th Avenue, west of Underwood.

Power line down

The Henning Fire Department, on Nov. 5, along with sheriff deputies, responded to a downed power line after a vehicle struck a power pole close to 7 p.m.

There were no reported injuries, and line repairs were made by Pelican Rapids-based Lake Region Electric Cooperative. A land owner was informed about fence damage on his property.

Injury when car hits deer

Sheriff deputies, on Nov. 9, reported a minor injury to a car passenger when a vehicle struck a deer close to 6 p.m. The accident took place near the intersection of Highway 59 and 130th Street, south of Fergus Falls and west of Dalton.

On Nov. 8 a vehicle was totaled after striking a deer at the intersection of Highway 10 and 410th Street, southeast of Perham. The accident took place at 5:05 a.m.

Amish buggy struck by car

Injuries were avoided after a car struck an Amish buggy pulled by a horse close to 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 8 near the intersection of Highways 8 and 19, north of Bluffton in northeastern Otter Tail County.

The driver of the vehicle was making a turn from Highway 19 onto Highway 8 when the accident took place.

Amish buggies are in compliance with Minnesota state law provided they display white reflective tape during daylight hours and a lighted red lantern from sunset to sunrise when visibility is impaired.

Cycle driver found dead

Sheriff deputies, on Nov. 7, reported the death of a motorcycle driver near the junction of Highway 88 and 180th Avenue, north of Fergus Falls. Also found at the scene of the accident was more than 30 pounds of methamphetamine.

An investigation showed that the motorcycle involved in the crash was the same motorcycle involved in a pursuit the previous evening. The driver was identified as Steven Michael Enloe, 34, of Hazen, North Dakota.

Members of the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office had initiated a pursuit of the motorcycle, at 8:28 p.m., Nov. 3, on Interstate 94 due to excessive speed. The cycle driver left the interstate and turned onto Highway 88.

Deputies lost sight of the cycle and terminate the pursuit. A search of the area was conducted but the cycle, and remains of the victim, was not found until the following day, Nov. 4, at 8:05 a.m. The investigation was continuing as of Nov. 7.
