Henning to host Battle Lake this week in summer rec

The Henning Pee Wee baseball team fell to New York Mills by a score of 5-0 on June 16. 

The three pitchers from NY Mills recorded 10 strikeouts in five innings and only surrendered 2 hits. Justin Redfield and Tony Castro each had a single. This was the first game for the young Hornets team and they improved their aggressiveness as the game went on. 

Easton Burmeister pitched 2 innings and struck out 4 NY Mills hitters. Javion Green also pitched 2 innings and struck out 2 hitters.

In their game against Parkers Prairie on June 21, Henning tied Parkers Prairie 3-3. 

The game was a defensive battle between the two teams. Green, Beckham Koep and Aidan Olson each had a hit in the fourth inning to help Henning come back from a 3-0 deficit. 

The Hornets had a chance to win the game in the top of the fifth inning with a pair of runners on base, but were unable to score to break the tie. The Hornets had a strong bottom of the fifth inning to help to preserve the 3-3 tie.

Green went 2-3 in the game, while Koep went 2-2 and Olson went 1-2.

Burmeister pitched 3 innings and Joseph Godding pitched 2 innings in the tie.

Mighty Mites

The Henning Mighty Mites team split a doubleheader with NY Mills on June 16. In the first game, the Hornets scored 7 runs in the third inning, but could not catch up to NY Mills’ early lead. Henning fell by a score of 11-7. 

Calahan Koep had a double that scored 2 runs after singles by Xavier Hoelscher, Reggie Emter, Mason Miller and Mac Dilly. 

In the second game, Henning defeated NY Mills by a score of 12-11. The Hornets hung on for the win thanks to a 2-run double by Dilly. He also had 2 singles in the game to lead the way.

The Hornets were led on the day by Dilly who went 5-5, Hoelscher and Miller and Benjamin Christensen went 4-5, while Reed Grieger and James Ziehm went 3-4 on the day.

On June 21, the Hornets split a doubleheader with Parkers Prairie.

In the first game the Hornets trailed by a score of 9-1, but scored 4 runs in the third inning and 3 runs in the fourth inning to fight their way back into the game. Dilly had a big 3-run home run, while Hoelscher and Emter went 3-3 to lead the way offensively. The Hornets dropped the game by a score of 9-8.

In the second game the Hornets defeated Parkers Prairie by a score of 6-5. Brody Iliff had 2 RBIs with two outs to end the game and give the victor to the young Henning team. 

Hoelscher had a single, double and triple to lead the way offensively for Henning. 

This week the Henning Summer Rec will host Wadena-Deer Creek on Wednesday morning and Battle Lake on Thursday. The game against Battle Lake will be held at 6 p.m. and feature a grill out hosted by First National Bank from 5-6 p.m.
