Randall “Randy” Arthur Riemer was born on May 23, 1952, to Richard and Esther (Buchholz) Riemer in Wadena. Randy was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Deer Creek. He graduated from Wadena High School as part of the class of 1970. Randy went on to further his education by going to the Fergus Falls Community College where he received his Associates degree in 1972.
On October 6, 1973, Randy was united in marriage to the love of his life Debra Crabb in Bertha, Minn. They would make their home by Hewitt, Minn., for a short time before moving to Henning, Minnesota. The couple was blessed with a daughter Erin and a son Eric.
In 1976, Randy received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota – Morris in education. Randy taught Social Studies and Physical Education at the Henning School from 1976 until his retirement 2009. He also coached basketball and football during his time at the school.
Randy served on various church boards and on the Council. He was a volunteer fireman for the Henning Firehall for nine years.
Randy had an extraordinary love and respect for his fellow human beings. He had a quiet leadership that was inspiring as well as being a true role model and servant of God. He was a genuine, kind and great teacher who saw the best in his students, which then helped them see it in themselves. Randy had a gentle heart and a wonderful smile. He was well known for his corny “Riemer Jokes” at school. He loved to joke and laugh; often ended up in tears from laughing so hard!
Randy took pride in taking care of his yard. He loved baseball and softball; when he was younger he would throw a baseball for hours. He enjoyed being with his family and especially his grandkids.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife Deb, daughter Erin (Brian) Guck of Wadena, son Eric (Maddy Simons) Riemer of Trail City, S.D., his grandchildren Riley and Abby Guck, Hayden, Weston, Bryndle, and Paisley Riemer, mother-in-law Betty Crabb, brother Richard (Pauline) Riemer, sisters Jean (Don) Kassube, and Carol (Jim) Guse, brothers-in-law Joseph Kovar and Bob Iken Jr., sister-in-law Jeannie (Doug) Stromberg, and many relatives and friends.
