VanErp wins triple jump on final attempt


Grace VanErp took first place in the triple jump at the Class A state track meet on Friday. VanErp is a senior for OTC and will compete for NDSU in the fall.

Grace VanErp Jumping

Grace VanErp was crowned as the state champion in the triple jump with a jump of 37’5 1/4” at the state track meet on Friday afternoon. VanErp dominated the event as she finished 5 1/4” in front of second place Avery Koenen of Montevideo. Her state championship jump came on her final attempt of the day.

VanErp also competed in the long jump as she took 10th place overall with a jump of 16’5”. She was just 2 1/2” short of placing sixth in the state in the event. 

Otter Tail Central junior Ally Hart took 13th place in the finals of the high jump. Hart finished with a jump of 4’10”, which was just 2” shy of placing seventh in the state.

“I’m proud of both of these girls and how they represented OTC track down here at the state level. Ally gained a lot of experience and I expect her to be jumping with the best next year,” said head coach Brady Spleicher. “Grace showed a lot of confidence and was rewarded with a championship. She set that out as a goal a couple years ago and to see her accomplish that is something I won’t ever forget. She will now go off and compete at NDSU this fall.”
