James Stevenson writes the book “The Great Big Especially Beautiful Easter Egg.” This book is full of comical illustrations that will make you smile without even knowing the story. This is a story within a story told by the elderly Grandfather.
Even though the children have had this read to them before, they still laugh and giggle at the images throughout this book. If your child comes home with this book I hope you too will enjoy it together.
Our second featured book takes a look inside the candy egg. The world in the “Candy Egg by Alvin Tresselt” illustrated by Roger Duvoisin. This story is set in a toy shop in the springtime.
On a high shelf is a sugar spun egg covered with flowers and magic, with the end cutout to form the window. Inside the egg, it was intricately decorated with a tree, grass, a home and animals. This story changes with each animal that looks inside the egg and tells what they see. When the little girl in the story tells what she sees, all the animals are amazed.
I hope these books will inspire you to step outside your comfort zone and maybe make an Easter egg of candy. If you aren’t able to do this, maybe you’ll find one to purchase and tell your own story of what you see inside of it.
Henning Library is open on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 3:30-5:30 p.m. following the school calendar.
