Henning wrapped up its regular season by splitting a pair of non-conference games last week. 

After defeating Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal on Tuesday night, the Hornets hit the road for a non-conference game against one of the top teams in the south half of the sub section in Ashby. The Hornets ultimately dropped the game by a score of 61-42 to end their season with a record of 21-5 overall. 

Henning will now turn its attention to the sub section tournament. 

The second seeded Hornets will open the playoffs on Thursday night against the winner of seventh seeded Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal and 10th seeded Underwood. The game will be held in Henning and start at 7 p.m.

The winner of Thursday’s game will take on either third seeded Hillcrest of sixth seeded Lake Park-Audubon on Saturday at 2:45 p.m. in Perham. 

On the other side of the sub section, top seeded New York Mills will take on either eighth seeded Rothsay or ninth seeded Park Christian and fourth seeded Breckenridge will take on fifth seeded Battle Lake. 

The sub section championship game is set for Tuesday, March 15 at 7 p.m. in Perham and the Section 6A championship game will be held on Friday, March 18 at Fergus Falls High School at 7 p.m. 

Currently there are five teams ranked in the top 13 in the state in Section 6A. The south side of the sub section features fourth ranked Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa, eighth ranked Hancock and 12th ranked Ashby. The top half features second ranked New York Mills and 13th ranked Henning.

Tuesday

Mason Hammer scored 25 points and pulled down 12 rebounds as the Henning Hornets picked up a non-conference win against Norman County East/Ulen Hitterdal on Tuesday night. The Hornets led by a score of 29-16 at halftime and held on for a 54-44 win. 

As a team, Henning struggled a bit from the field as they shot just 33 percent, but shared the ball throughout the night as they finished with 14 assists on 15 made field goals.

“This was a physical battle on top of a long road trip for our guys. We were happy to come out of Twin Valley with a win. Mason Hammer shot the ball well in the first half, which helped us get out to an early lead,” said head coach Randy Misegades.

Tanner Arndt also reached double figures with 12 points and a team-high 6 assists. Tyson Misegades scored 7 points, while Kale Misegades scored 6 points to go along with 5 assists. Carter Dilly and Lane Dilly rounded out the scoring with 2 points apiece. Lane Dilly also pulled down 6 rebounds in the win.

Friday

In a match up that featured two teams ranked in the top 10 in the state for most of the season, Ashby defeated Henning by a score of 61-42 on Friday night. It was the final regular season game for both teams as they will now turn their attentions to the sub section tournament. 

The Arrows utilized their height advantage throughout the night and made things difficult for the Hornets on the offensive end of the court. Henning shot just 37 percent from the field and went just 7-21 from behind the 3-point line. 

“Ashby was really efficient tonight. We struggled with their size and physicality on both ends of the floor,” said head coach Randy Misegades. “We have to give them a lot of credit. They are the best team we’ve seen all season.”

The Hornets were led offensively by Mason Hammer who scored 12 points, while senior Tanner Arndt scored 11 points. 

Tyson Misegades scored 7 points and had a team-high 5 assists, while Kale Misegades scored 6 points and Lane Dilly and Carter Dilly each chipped in with 3 points to round out the scoring.
