0Henning to host Frazee for parent’s night
The Henning girls basketball team had just one game last week due to inclement weather. The Hornets defeated a good Browerville team that came into the game with a record of 15-3 overall and defeated state ranked Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa in the game prior to their match up with the Hornets.
The Henning girls did a great job of handling Browerville’s press and also did a great job of playing great team defense to not allow them any easy buckets. The Hornets paired those two things with some great offensive ball movement and shooting as they were able to come away with a nice 67-51 victory.
In the first half Henning had great teamwork on both ends of the court and were able to lead 35-27 at halftime.
Faith Fisher led the team with 12 first half points including a couple 3-pointers. Lyvia Misegades also scored double figures in that first half despite sitting with foul trouble finishing the half with 10 points, while Lily Fraki also had a nice half finishing with 7 points including two 3-pointers.
Ally Hart did a great job all game in penetrating to the basket. Hart would find the open teammate which led to a bunch of our shots being wide open and she finished the game with a team high 7 assists.
In the second half the Hornets were able to keep the momentum going and at one point led by 22 points before winning by that 67-51 final score.
Individually, Henning was led by Misegades with another great game and double-double with 32 points and 11 rebounds on 70 percent shooting from the field. Fisher had a great game as well with 19 points on 67 percent shooting.
Head coach Mike Hepola said he couldn’t emphasize enough the great job the team did of finding the open teammates, which allowed the Hornets to shoot 56 percent as a team.
Fraki finished with 8 points on 67 percent shooting. Hart and Emma Severson rounded out the scoring with 6 and 2 points respectively. Hart led the team with those 7 assists, but Fisher and Fraki also had a solid 3 and 2 assists respectively. Misegades led with those 11 rebounds, followed by Fisher and Fraki with 5 each and Natalie Eckhoff with 4.
This win brings Henning’s record to 13-7 on the season. Because of inclement weather, the Hornets now have four big games coming up next week with a rescheduled game at New York Mills on Monday. Henning will then travel to Verndale for another big conference game on Tuesday. On Thursday the Hornets will host Frazee for parent’s night and then on Friday Henning will host Bertha-Hewitt in a boys/girls doubleheader.
