The Henning girls basketball team had a busy week with three games, including two against a couple of the top Class AA teams in the area and state. Henning went 1-2 in these games to bring their overall season record to 8-5 on the season.  

Monday, Jan. 10 at West Central Area 84-67 loss

On Monday night the Hornets traveled to Barrett to take on the West Central Area team that beat Henning in last year’s Section 6A final. The Knights have now been moved up to Class AA. 

West Central Area jumped out to a big lead against the Hornets by a score of 48-22 at halftime.  In the second half Henning’s girls came out and played well as a team and actually cut the lead down to about 11 as they scored 46 second half points, before ultimately losing to the Knights by the final score of 84-67.   

Individually, the Hornets were led offensively by Lyvia Misegades with 20 points, Ally Hart with 16 and Faith Fisher with 15 points.  Rounding out the scoring was Lily Fraki 6 points, Emma Severson 4 points, Natalie Eckhoff and Alivia Gunderson with 3 points each.  Misegades led the way in rebounding with 8, Fisher and Hart each had 7. Fisher led the team with 7 assists and 3 steals.

Thursday, Jan. 13 vs. Verndale 44-32 win

On Thursday night the Hornets hosted Verndale in a Park Region Conference game and were able to come away with a 44-32 victory.  

Verndale is a scrappy team and caused the Hornets some issues on their offensive end as they didn’t get clicking like they had down in West Central in that second half. Fortunately, the Hornets were able to do enough defensively to get the win. 

Individually Henning was led by Faith Fisher with 16 points, Lyvia Misegades with 12 points and Lily Fraki with 8 points.  

Rounding out the scoring was Natalie Eckhoff with 4, Ally Hart and Alivia Gunderson with 2 points each.  

Hart led the team with 5 rebounds, while Misegades led with 4 assists and Fisher led with 5 steals.

Saturday, Jan. 15 vs. Hawley at Perham Breakdown 74-40 lost

On Saturday the Hornets traveled to Perham to take on a great Class AA team in Hawley.  In the beginning Henning was able to hang with them as the game was 19-17, but then their 3-point shooting and their depth as a team really became a problem as the Hornets trailed 38-23 at halftime.  

In the second half the Hornets tried to battle back, but weren’t able to make a move and ended up getting everyone a chance to play in that half, before ultimately losing by the final score of 74-40.
