Romaine Robert Stephan was born on November 24, 1935, at home in Leslie Township, rural Long Prairie, Minn. His parents were the late Nicolas and Almina (Cheney) Stephan. Romaine graduated from the Eagle Bend High School with the class of 1953. He served honorably in the United States Army from July 2, 1954, to June 26, 1957. Romaine continued his education at the Brown Institute in Minneapolis, Minn. where he received a degree in electronics.  

On March 8, 1958, Romaine was united in marriage with Delores Elaine Selvaag in Wadena. Their marriage was blessed with three children: Curt, Greg, and Tammy. Romaine and Delores made their home in Minneapolis. Romaine was employed with Honeywell from 1961-1968, where he made gold power switches for Apollo 13.  

In 1968 they made their home in rural Vining. Romaine enjoyed farming and was employed with Mark’s Sand and Gravel and Lund Boats. He was employed for 25 years with Otter Tail County Maintenance Division based out of Parkers Prairie, retiring in 2000. He spent his retirement years helping take care of the Folden Lutheran Church, helping them build the big dining room addition. 

Romaine was a dedicated trapper, he loved nature as he would walk the trap line and trap only on dry ground.  He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, auction sales, feeding the birds, playing cards, and collecting rocks. He could be found each morning having a cup of coffee with his friends either in Vining or in Parkers Prairie. 

On December 18, 2021, Romaine passed away at Alomere Health in Alexandria, Minn., at 86 years of age. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Preceding Romaine in death were his parents, Nicolas, and Almina Stephan; siblings: Patty, Shirley, Donna and Doug. 

Romaine is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Delores Stephan of Vining; children: Curt Stephan of Parkers Prairie; Greg (Tammy) Stephan of Vining and Tammy (Kerry) Midtling of Almora; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Gary (Joan) Stephan of Minneapolis, Minn.; many other relatives and a host of friends.   

Services will be held for Romaine at Folden Lutheran Church, rural Vining in the Spring of 2022.
