Henning improves to 12-6 overall with win over Sebeka

After games against Barnesville and Sebeka last week, the Henning Hornets overall record improved to 12-6 and their Park Region Conference record is now 4-0. On Tuesday, the Hornets fell to Barnesville 2-3 (25-23, 25-20, 16-25, 15-25 and 12-15) and then on Thursday, they defeated Sebeka 3-0 (25-13, 25-13, 25-13).

Henning’s game against Barnesville was an exciting match. Barnesville is the top ranked team in 8AA and are a very well rounded team. They have hitters who swing aggressively and they put up a big block at the net.  

The Hornets controlled the first two game of the night and then let the Trojans gain momentum back. This found Henning on defense in games three and four. In the fifth game the Hornets fell behind at the start, but when Faith Fisher got to the serving line, she served aggressive and the Trojans had a difficult time passing to target.  The Hornets pushed and took the lead at 11-10, but Barnesville sided out and went up 13-11.  

The Hornets got one more chance with a side out, putting the score at 12-13, but they were unable to pull through and lost the fifth set 15-12.

As a team, the Hornets served 92 percent with 5 ace serves, they had 49 kills, 11 blocks, serve received 87 percent to target and dug the ball at 67 percent.

Grace Hammer led the team with 18 kills, Ally Hart had 13 and Emma Severson 11 apiece.  Hart and Becca Frederick each served 15/15 on the night. Frederick led the team with five blocks and Severson added 4. Fisher led the team in digs with 29 and Hart added 24. Lyvia Misegades led the team with 43 set assists.

Emma Severson finished with 14 kills during Thursday’s Park Region Conference game against Sebeka. 

In their game against Sebeka, the Hornets controlled the match from start to finish. Henning had very good serve receive, which helped the Hornets attack the ball better. As a team the Hornets had 44 kills and hit .217 (this is the best this year), they served 98 percent with 8 aces and serve received 92 percent to the target.

Emma Severson had a great night attacking the ball, she had a career high 14 kills hitting at .308. Grace Hammer had 12 kills, Ally Hart had 6 and Becca Frederick ended the night with 5 kills.  Gretchen Eckhoff led the team in serving, she was 18/18 with 4 aces. Lyvia Misegades had 37 set assists and Hart let the team with 20 digs.

The Hornets are off until Thursday, Oct. 7, when they travel to Pillager for a PRC match. On Saturday the Hornets will play in the Perham Tournament.
