Ara Marie Buchan Bursch

March 25, 1937-July 24, 2021 (age 84)

Ara was born on March 25, 1937 at the farm home near Henning. Her parents were the late A. Ross and Evangelynn (Hanson) Buchan. Ara passed away on July 24, 2021 in Fergus Falls. Funeral services were held on August 4, 2021 in Henning. 

Ara attended grade school and high school at Henning Public School. She graduated with the class of 1955. She attended Bethel College in St. Paul, Minn. and was employed by Minneapolis, Honeywell in Minneapolis, Minn., by Merickel Lumbar in Wadena.

Ara attended Sunday service at the First Baptist Church in Henning and participated in the activities of the Baptist Young Peoples Union. She was church clerk for many years. 

Ara was a Brownie Scout and played her cornet in the school band and sang in the choir. During summer vacations she worked at Mission Farms on Medicine Lake in Minneapolis, Minn.

In 1983 Ara and Vernon Bursch were married in a lovely wedding ceremony at the First Baptist Church. Together with her husband, she then worked at the Bursch Drug Store in Henning until their retirement. During their retirement they spent their summers in Henning and tended to their farm in Inman Township. Their winters were spent in Brownsville, Texas enjoying the warm weather and making new friends.

Ara was a talented seamstress, quilter, and knitter. Her family and friends cherish the sweaters and other things she made for them.

Ara is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her beloved son Steven. 

Survivors include her sisters Valerie Buchan and Roslyn Ducept, a nephew Ross Ducept and nieces Valerie Johnson, Cherice McDowell, and many cousins and friends. 

Ara will be greatly missed.
