In Loving Memory of Richard Steensland
Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Friend
Richard (Rich) Steensland, 80, of Minnetonka, Minn., passed away peacefully on February 6, 2025, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. A devout Christian, Rich lived his life with unwavering faith and a deep love for his family.
Born on January 11, 1945, in Minneapolis, Minn., Rich lived a full and vibrant life. He was an exceptional athlete, playing three sports for the Hopkins class of 1963, followed by competing in four sports during his time at Bemidji State, graduating in 1967. His passion for sports led him to Henning, where he coached basketball, baseball and football, earning “Football Coach of the Year” in 1972. Rich was a true sportsman, spending countless hours refereeing, umping, golfing, fishing and his most recent addiction, playing pickleball. Despite Alzheimer’s, Rich competed with the amazing community of people at Staring Lake and the Eden Prairie Community Center who we will always be grateful to and remember as family.

Rich is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Margaret (Maggie), his children Ryan (Pamela), Matt (Kristen) and Kay (John), and his cherished grandchildren, Steven, Charlie, Joe, Max, Kathryn, Tommy, Grant, Megan, Blake and Samantha. He will be remembered for his rock-solid conviction, his ability to engage with all he met and his relentless pursuit of ice cream.
A funeral service will be held at Christ Presbyterian Church on February 18, at 1 p.m., followed by a dessert reception. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Rich’s memory.
Rich’s legacy of love, integrity and faith will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Rich is proceeded in death by his grandson, Grant William Steensland, and parents Kermit and Dorothy Steensland.
